The current phase of the Hard Clam
Restoration Project will run
through the end of 2011 and focus on
the following outcomes:
continue evaluations of past work to improve on-the-ground clam
restoration throughout the entire bay
conduct the assessments needed to identify the most suitable locations
for both clam restoration, protection and harvesting
consider past and ongoing scientific studies to assess the resource and
develop management alternatives
identify additional opportunities to promote shellfish restoration and
simultaneously provide economic opportunities through appropriately scaled
shellfish aquaculture
generate fair, consistent and adaptable shellfish harvesting regulations
that will support and protect the hard clam breeding population
recommend for adoption and implementation by towns, a fair and
transparent system of monitoring and evaluation that will help all stakeholders
understand progress as it is made and to provide the basis for making
appropriate management decisions as conditions improve over time
